Yellow deer frolic on each side of a skull figurine from Mexico. They hold an important place in Huichol thought, as Kawuyomaire, the blue deer, is considered their brother, guardian and guide. On the crown six colorful diamonds align to form a starburst. These diamond-shaped talismans are known as the "eyes of God" and direct us to the correct path of life. Rrurabe, the guardian stars that accompany the shaman, twinkle in the darkness and six-sided buds represent peyote, an essential element of Huichol religion, believed to enlighten the one who partakes of it. This dazzling composition is the work of Higinio Hernandez Carrillo, who creates the images with tiny seed beads. He meticulously applies them one by one to the figurine, which is first covered in beeswax.

Do not expose this piece to direct heat or light, as it could soften the wax adhesive and thus loosen the beads.
