Embossing tin by hand, Aida and Cristino Lavariega in Mexico create this lovely wall accent. The Oaxacan art form dates back to Spanish colonial times and is called hoja de lata. The wall accent is enhanced with colorful lacquers.

Crafted from ceramic and painted by hand in the style of Talavera handicrafts, this wall cross is created by Mexican artisan Juana Ponce. She draws inspiration from traditional Spanish designs to create this faithful piece of wall decor.

A side portrait of a human is depicted as if it were an MRI or X-ray image. We get to see the intricate bone structure as well as a fetus in the stage of development that replaces the brain. Guatemalan artist Spencer Samayoa says of his striking xylograph print in black and white: “This artwork is inspired by how the images that are formed in our brain are our own personal interpretations that give birth to the conception of an idea.”

Margarita Revilla, a master artisan versed in malleable materials, produces this charming wall cross in her Jalisco workshop through an exhaustive process. This cross has ample care and purpose put into its creation, with the artisan firstly impressing the design into clay, burnishing to give it a striking black finish, drying it for two weeks, then baking it for three days to arrive at completion. Incorporating a floral design on the cross, Revilla blends the pre-Hispanic pottery style of barro negro, commonplace in Oaxaca, with the ancient symbol of the Western religion that arrived in Mexico with the Spanish.
