There are different faces for every being, as Balinese artist Kasiyanto shows in his newest painting series. Using acrylic on canvas and a stunning folk art style, Kasiyanto depicts a tender mother and her child, each made of sinuous and intricate shapes in warm orange, brown and green hues to symbolize unconditional love.

Using traditional tools and techniques, Balinese artisan Gio creates this stunning mask inspired by totem heads. In many cultures, a totem serves as a sacred and symbolic object for a group of people. Gio carves this mask by hand from local Balinese albesia wood. A distressed finish with acrylic paint accentuates the bold features of the mask.

Part of Hindu mythology, Jatayu is a divine vulture and the hero of a traditional tale about the goddess Sita, who was rescued by this sacred bird. Inspired by the stunning images of this magnificent creature, Balinese artisan Made Mulyani crafts this acacia wood mask, painting every detail by hand and adding a traditional touch to the piece.

In Balinese culture, Tri Kaya Parisudha is a philosophy that promotes positive thoughts, words and deeds, composed by three purified actions known as Manacika, Wacika and Kayika. Artisans from the Subrata Family in Indonesia carve and paint by hand a compelling suar wood sculpture of a man practicing Manacika and looking to achieve harmony and peace in life by the power of positive thinking.

"Positive thinking helps people do right and speak the truth. Positive and right thinking are the way to a harmonious life. With right and positive thinking, our behavior will be good and positive, including with our words. If all of creation thinks positively and does right, the world will be peaceful and not have more war, violence, or conflict, and so we will all prosper," say the artisans.
