The artisan crafts the wooden box to house this retablo or diorama and paints it in vivid colors. The figures are carefully modeled from clay and painted by hand.

This retablo sculpture is designed and made by Erika Ulloa in Peru. It is nativity scene but with the personages dressed in the traditional attire of the town of Chota. He fashions the ceramic figurines by hand and paints the diorama in bright colors suitable for year-round display.
