One of the most respected, he is the old god, the god of fire, the god that gave rise to the other deities in the pre-Hispanic pantheon. On his head, a tray holds glowing embers while his wrinkled visage attest to the god's great age. Working in ceramic, artisans from the Angel Cerón Artisan Association depict an Aztec priest paying tribute to corn, the staff of life, a fundamental foodstuff in ancient Mesoamerica. "Maize was considered a sacred food, a source of life and, as such, a gift of the gods," the Mexican artisans say. To one side is the Aztec sun stone. Discovered in Mexico City, it is on display in the National Museum of Anthropology and History. The images on it depict the Aztec cosmogony.

Believed to channel the courage and might of the eagle, the eagle warrior was highly revered by the Tlaxcalteca people of 600-950, and images of these elite warriors are present in Mexico City's Templo Mayor. Artisans from the Angel Cerón Artisan Association depict one such warrior wearing talons on his hands, as well as an imposing feathered headdress that represents the powerful bird. The Mexican artisans work in ceramic, giving his polychrome sculpture an aged, antique finish.

A unique fusion of Maya and Toltec styles, the chac mool depicts a reclining person holding a bowl. The first such figures were discovered in the late 1800s in a number of sites in Yucatán. Thought to depict sacrificial victims, the bowls received offerings to the gods – perhaps even human hearts. Angel Cerón recreates the enigmatic image in an exquisite ceramic sculpture.

Angel Cerón honors Tlaloc, god of earthly waters and fertility, with a handcrafted ceramic figurine. The people from the Teotihuacán culture believed him to be responsible for drought as well as for floods. This belief spread throughout Mexico, reaching the Maya who referred to him as Chaac, and from there to Central American cultures.

This adorable doll will make a beautiful gift for newborns, kids, and adults alike. Graciela Orozco takes inspiration from traditional Mexican rag dolls - known as Maria dolls - to create this charming ceramic sculpture.

The charming doll originated in Mexico City when many Otomi and Mazahua people migrated to the capital in the 1970s. Due to their unique traditional clothing, the women became known as "Marias." An educational program was established for them and artist Diego Rivera's daughter, Guadalupe Rivera Marin, encouraged crafting these popular rag dolls as a way to generate income in the 1980s. Artisan women took the idea home to their Mazahua and Otomi towns and the dolls became popular throughout Mexico and abroad.

This gleaming biplane is ready to soar above uncharted lands in an exclusive design by Mexico's Armando Ramirez. This original artist transforms the discarded metal pieces off a die machine into the plane's propellers, spark plug body, and wings. These are held in place with thick wires. The wings' rotors are made from cogs that once were part of a car's electric system. The plane's axis tail is cut from a metal tube. Finally, Ramirez uses screws to simulate the plane's headlights.

Please note it is the artist's intention not to give his sculptures a fine polished finish, therefore smudges and scratches may be present.

Artisan Luis Morales of Mexico crafts a charming ceramic Catrina to grace your mantel or shelf. Formed by hand from clay, her ensemble is carefully painted in red with white flowers and ruffles. Her hair is braided and she holds a magnificent platter. The elegant figure is based on a satirical etching created by Mexican artist José Guadalupe Posada around 1910-1913. With his etching, Posada poked fun at those Mexican natives who tried to emulate the fashion and habits of the European aristocracy. Today, la Catrina has become the instantly recognizable icon of Día de los Muertos (Mexico's Day of the Dead).
