Influenced by these ancestral customs, artisans have been creating handicrafts using skull imagery for centuries. Jesus and Roxana Hernandez of the Mexican state of Oaxaca present this eye-catching skull-shaped home decor piece carved by hand from copal wood. Against a yellow base color, black lines are drawn to simulate a scaly texture, then the skull is further hand decorated with patches of geometric patterns on the top and sides in red, green, and pink. The dark eye sockets and nasal cavities are outlined in blue and green. Two rows of pearly white teeth complete the colorful cranium.

Wonderful Gift

My daughter has sort of a thing about sculls. This one is so joyous. It has beautiful symbols, flora and fauna. The colors glow. I have to wait awhile for her birthday, but I wanted to be sure to get it. What a delightful piece of art.

Adorable!

Just adorable! We recently downsized into a small senior apartment so this is perfect for our Halloween decor. It is colorful and well crafted. I like knowing something about the artisan too. A wonderful piece.

A beautiful Catrina.

This is a very nice Catrina. What impressed me the most is that given my past experience with this type of ceramics, I was hesitant to order it just because I was afraid it may not make it on the shipping. Well, I had to use my old dissection skills to unwrap it. The packaging was superbly done. Now to the piece, it is as beautiful as it shows in the picture. It is elegant and genuinely "coqueta."
