Artisan Yudi Suardi of Bali appreciates the unique look that natural benalu wood (related to mistletoe) lends to his sculptures. Each piece is different, making each sculpture a one-of-a-kind work of art. Here the artisan carves a realistic pair of grey whales from jempinis wood, and mounts them on a benalu wood base. The effect is that of a coral reef.

“Incredibly Lifelike”

The piece is very beautiful. You can almost see the wings flutter as the hummingbirds feed. It was surprising to me how light-weight it is. And its amazing that it was created from what was basically trash wood.
