"To design these earrings, I was inspired by the shape of the milagros mexicanos or 'Mexican miracles,' a custom still preserved by many Catholic Mexicans, who will pin a steel brooch in the shape of a body part to a saint's robe. The brooch represents an ailment in that specific part," says Maria Belen Nilson as she explains the surreal essence of these handcrafted sterling silver earrings. "Doves spreading their wings also become the face of a woman with eyes downcast. The earrings symbolize spirit's vision." The artisan crafts the design with an oxidized finish on the main body of the earrings and a contrasting highly polished finish on the pendulum-like dangles.
