Ghanaian artisan Theophilus Sackey taps into his own fertile imagination for the original design of this mask. The visage wears a cone-shaped headdress as well as marks on both cheeks intended to resemble the ritual scarification still performed by some tribes. Sackey carves the mask by hand from sese wood and paints it colorfully.

“Fabulous!”

I received this mask today. It is even more beautiful in person than online. I am so pleased! Surprisingly, the mask appears to be black and white only in the online image. In fact, the elephant appears a deep rich purple. This enhances the image. Its a wonderful art work.
