This triangular barro negro pencil holder is handcrafted by artisan Anakarem of Oaxaca, who works as a team with his father. Barro negro, literally translated as "black mud," is a type of pottery from clay only found in Oaxaca, Mexico, and crafted using traditional methods. The black color comes from the clay itself, enhanced during the firing process. This pencil holder has two quarter flowers on a diagonal on each side made through a combination of embossing and decorative cutouts.

I bought this for my best friend (her family is from Mexico) for her birthday. I didnt actually see it because it came to me giftwrapped, but it was WELL protected in its box. It was wrapped for dear life. So, if youre concerned about the fragility of it... Im not sure how it could possibly break with how well they packaged it in paper.

I bought this for my computer desk because it was very unique. However after a short period of time, with only pencils and favorite pens to place in it; it broke I to pieces ?? unexpectedly.
