Pale in the darkness, stars send a message from the heavens. In Huichol belief, it is the stars that watch over the sun at night while he is asleep, and rrurabe, are guardian stars that accompany the shaman. The cover a handsome black skull by Higinio Hernandez Carrillo. Large on each cheek, peyote buds are the medium through which celebrants may see and communicate with the gods. The artisan creates these geometric images with tiny seed beads, patiently applying each one and using a needle to place them with precision.
Do not expose this piece to direct heat or light, as it could soften the wax adhesive and thus loosen the beads.

What incredible detail! This is so beautiful and the beadwork is PERFECT. Theres not a crooked bead anywhere - the quality and artisanship are phenomenal! I cant find a signature anywhere but he definitely should - it is my first of many to purchase! I have really enjoyed learning about the Huijol people and customs!
