Handmade Wood Mask from Bali in Good vs. Evil Theme, "Bali Barong Bold"

Indonesia's Gio hand-carves this intricate mask from albesia wood, then uses gold oil paints to accentuate the finer details. Colors of black, maroon, red, yellow, gold, black, grey and off-white are processed with an antiquing technique to give the appearance of a time-worn artifact. Barong is a mythological Balinese character, often represented by a lion, in the never-ending fight between good and evil. The Barong is the magical protector of Balinese villages, who wanders from door to door cleansing the territory of evil influences.
