The wood looks beautiful. It seems to me it does not actually amplify the sound, like a conventional speaker does. What it actually does is it diffuses sound, so that it no longer comes from just one pinpoint on your phone, but from all around this beautiful contraption. As a result, the sound is clearer and infinitely more pleasing to the ear. The sound is amplified not so much in volume, but mostly in quality. So I carry it with me around the house, to listen to music or podcasts when I cook or knit or clean. I actually prefer it to the usual bluetooth speaker.
