Handcrafted Javanese Style Wood Batik Mask, "Petruk"

One of the four punokawan or "clowns" from Javanese shadow puppetry, Petruk is the middle child of Semar. Traditionally, such characters would provide comic relief, but also social criticism. Tri Sugiyanti works to preserve Javanese cultural heritage by recreating Petruk in this unique mask. The mask is craved from albesia wood and carefully painted by hand.
