Since learning to weave at the tender age of 8, Elena Ixtamer in Guatemala has worked to preserve her family and cultural legacy in weaving. This beautiful rayon ikat scarf is woven on a traditional backstrap loom in violet and white. Ikat is a weaving technique that employs resist dyeing the yarns before weaving the fabric. Braided fringe trims both ends of the scarf.

This is absolutely gorgeous. It is even prettier than I expected and shows off the artists abilities. I have no idea how anyone can weave such an intricate pattern. I love it.

An absolutely gorgeous shawl, color, design, workmanship! Gave it as a birthday gift to my eldest sister. (It was hard not to keep it for myself!)
