The "Deka" mask of the Ewe people of Ghana's Volta region was worn by the messenger of the tribe in the early days of their history. Meaning "Alone," the messenger who was usually on his own wore the Deka mask for protection. Robert Nortey carves the sese wood mask by hand and paints it dark brown with beautiful red and green details with curly lines on the head gear.

I have many beautiful masks that I have ordered through Novica and love them, and this mask, ?To Foresee? is no exception! While it it one of my less embellished and detailed masks, it still makes a big impression. Heavy, substantial, and the beautiful reddish color really makes an impact! So happy to have it as part of my collection!
