Although it has numerous meanings and translations, in some Mesoamerican traditions a nahual is a person's spirit animal, or even someone who has the ability to shapeshift into that animal. This brilliant nahual sculpture of a woman with the body of an owl is crafted by the Aguilar Artisan Workshop in Mexico. The artisans use local clay to form the sculpture, which is then dried, painted and fired at high temperatures.
