Like Mexican culture in general, many Oaxaca alebrijes reveal a mixture of European and indigenous influences. This copal wood carved alebrije from the Central Valleys of Oaxaca depicts a blue and orange dragon, from European lore, with the colors of a nahual, an indigenous fantastic creature. It is the creation of artist Esteban Hernandez.

This was a gift for a friend of mine who read the book Old Turtle during Childrens Time at church. I loved the book! The expression on this turtle made me smile... It was a perfect choice. I have several old Oaxacan Alebrije turtles that have special meaning to me -- so I bought her a new turtle. Buy now (only one left) as these treasures sell out quickly.
