"In the Fante culture, the fetish priest gives these fertility dolls (male and female) to married couples who desire twins," explains Winfred Korley. "The tribal mark on both cheeks is meant to protect them from evil. It is believed that carrying these dolls will make the woman conceive twins." Korley carves the sese wood sculptures by hand with admirable artistry and decorates them with bright beaded jewelry.
