Combining colors of iris and blue-violet, this Balinese sarong evokes the mystery of a bamboo forest. By Desak Nyoman Parwati, the sarong is woven of rayon, decorated with bamboo motifs in the batik style, where a wax resist is stamped onto the fabric before being dyed. A strap at the neck secures the sarong, which drapes beautifully.

I have used this beautiful dress on several occasions since I recently purchased it. It is comfortable, well designed and has two large pockets. I am looking forward to buying another dress from Ms. Parvati.

For eleven years Desak worked with a batik artisan learning all aspects of the process, from wax painting to dyeing. From her, she learned not only the art of batik and textile design but also how to care for her workers. In her workshop, Desak and the older artisans generously teach their art to the younger artisans, preserving for another generation this UNESCO cultural treasure.
