Asantewaa, the name of this pair of dolls, was a brave queen mother of the Ashanti people of Ghana. She was renowned for her ability to lead men into war, and since that time, many women who bear this name manifest a representative level of valor and intelligence. Carved from sese wood, the pieces exemplify Daniel Nyadedzor's creative and historical artistry. aluminium plates, emulsion paints, clay, and a finish of Mansion polish complete the reverent design. The carvings are known as akuaba, or fertility dolls.

They are very well made and add a bit of interest to where they are placed. I am super happy for this purchase and will buy more from this extremely talented artist!

I gave these as Christmas gifts to a business colleague. Something unique and different for those who have everything. Liked the fact they were made of wood.
