Carved of African sese wood, this mask seems angry. Its sleek contours depict eyes that slant toward a narrow nose and sensuous mouth. Nana Frimpong names this design Ka nia wo pe, meaning "say whatever you want" in the language of Ghana's Akan people. "Sometimes when you insult someone, the person just looks at you without uttering a word and afterward tells you, 'You can say whatever you want.'"

“Perfect size for a small space”

This is just the right size to fit neatly in so many places. I reflect on the meaning each day as I leave the door of my bedroom where it reminds me to look honestly at the past and remember its lessons in order to build a better future.
