Khachqars, or stone crosses, are primarily associated with the Armenian Apostolic Church, one of the oldest denominations in the world. They are often placed in churchyards, or other religious sites as a way of invoking divine protection. They usually consist of a cross with intricate geometric and floral designs. These designs have deep symbolic meanings related to Armenian history.
