Floral tendrils envelop a demure mother elephant. Carved in dainty jali, or openwork, her tummy reveals three perfect miniature elephants inside. Gulam Rasool presents the pachyderms sculpted from natural soapstone.

I purchased one of these a few years ago. A few days ago, it was broken by a house cleaner. Inside were 6 additional elephants, rather than the 3 listed in the description. Four increasingly smaller elephants were standing on top of each other, and inside the two elephants on the bottom were two additional elephants! I cant even imagine the degree of skill needed to carve and elephant, inside of an elephant, inside of an elephant all out of stone and through such tiny holes. I have always loved this. I was happy to see that there were two remaining, because I just ordered a replacement. The artist is to be commended. Gulam Rasool is very, very talented.

How on earth do you do it? She is beautiful. To get all that detail on the outside is a stroke of genius, but the triplets as well takes this treasured piece tho a whole new level of craftsmanship

Precious piece and worried about arriving safe and sound. Relieved packaging was so secure took me removal of several layers of wrapping to get to box! Superb crafting of many elephants (my favorite creature) and love round design and substantial weight and size. Only disappointment is not off-white or ecru color as shown online, but a much darker brown or grayish shade. Nevertheless, love his work. Wish Gulam could bring back dyed/colored soapstone that he used to craft years ago. I have one of his pieces of a soapstone multi-colored elephant small box which I truly treasure.
