Mauricio Morales crafts a small ceramic bird figurine that features exquisite hand painted detailing. "The process for making these small animals was something I learned when I was small...since then it has become a passion of mine," says the Guatemalan artisan, adding that the bird sculpture is made for, "...all of those who love birds." He starts by mixing the clay and carefully shaping the figure, and then he adds aluminium legs and feet. After the bird is fired, he sands it, mixes his own colours and paints the figurine. The result is a charming and minutely detailed depiction of a roadrunner complete with blueish skin around the eye area and a crown covered in small white spots.

I lived in Phoenix when I was much younger, and I loved seeing the roadrunner birds. I still love them, and this figurine by Mr. Morales is perfect and I am adding it to my collection of pretty birds he has made. My thanks to him (again).

Many thanks Mauricio. Your birds never disappoint. I was going to order this to give to a friend, but decided I needed it more. This will join other birds on top of the antique secretary. The wires in their feet make it so easy to pose them.

Mauricio is a true artist. He paints these little birds to look quite life-like. Ive purchased 3: Red-tailed hawk, Chickadee, and Woodpecker. One is for a friend and the other 2--well, --theyre in my house so I see them every day. Only 1 thing--the Woodpecker is a different size than the others. Just FYI.
