Carved by hand, this elegant mask represents courage. An African adinkra symbol on the forehead represents akofena, meaning "sword of war." "The crossed scimitars were a popular motif in the heraldic shields of many former Akan states. The swords can also represent legitimate state authority," artisan Theophilus Sackey explains. He covers the features with hand embossed aluminium.

“Fabulous!”

I received this mask today. It is even more beautiful in person than online. I am so pleased! Surprisingly, the mask appears to be black and white only in the online image. In fact, the elephant appears a deep rich purple. This enhances the image. Its a wonderful art work.
