But the sandy village street is alive with laughter as children fly kites in the early evening breeze. This delightful painting by Boni is filled with life and colour. "Kites are an important tradition in November," the artist explains. They are flown on November 1, All Saints Day, to feel closer to loved ones who have passed away. "I love this tradition, the art of crafting kites, and all their colours," he adds. These kites have been designated as a Cultural Heritage of Guatemala.
Titled "Barriletes" in Spanish.
