Beautifully handcrafted of jade and stucco, this bold sculpture replicates a mask discovered in the ancient Maya city of Tikal. It was found in Tomb 160 and dates from 527 A.D. Such masks were placed in burials to be worn by the spirit of the deceased king in his journey through the underworld. Exquisitely crafted by Ruben and Gilda Perez, the museum replica arrives with a brass and pinewood display stand, and it can also be displayed on the wall.

When I opened the package, my first reaction was WOW! I am used to being somewhat disappointed with many items I order on line, but the Maya King of Tikal jade mask. It really is museum quality - perfect. Ive been to Tikal and this is the perfect reminder of that visit. Ruben and Gilda Perez are true masters of their art and this mask is a masterpiece.

This was a 12th anniversary gift for my husband. Jade or opal is the gemstone for that year of marriage. It is very nice although it is large, and my husband says it is a bit heavy. He wont wear it. I did not realize it was so big otherwise I would not have purchased. Once I received it, I had a feeling he would think it was too big. I decided to keep it and make it into an ornament for our Christmas tree or maybe use it a windchime.
