Though modest in size, this original mask from Awudu Saaed will not go unnoticed. The artisan carves the slightly simian-looking visage by hand from rubberwood and details it with brown, black and red paint. A beautifully-detailed bird formed from recycled glass beads decorates the forehead. Additional beads cover both cheeks. The artisan names his creation Serie, which means "laughter" in the Akan tongue.

Not sure how I stumbled upon this mask in the first place but from the moment I saw it, something about it haunted me. Its beautiful. I could NOT stop thinking about it and finally caved, and Im so glad I did. The colors, the beadwork, and the craftsmanship are all incredible. This is my favorite piece of art we own, by far. I cant wait to collect more of Awudu Saaeds work.
