Details

Rita Addo Zakour demonstrates her creative skills with this elegant wall plaque depicting an African mask. Carved by hand, the face represents a woman. The artisan names the piece Yaa, which means "born on Thursday" in the Twi language, spoken by the Akan people. "As a present, this mask is given to a mother who gives birth on a Thursday, as a way of congratulating her for a safe delivery. This is mostly practiced by the Ashanti tribe," the Ghanaian artisan says. She presents the mask on a ceramic plaque.
