Huichol Bear Figurine from Mexico, "Flower Bear"

The peyote flower and snake, symbols of great significance to the Huichol or Wixarika peoples, decorate this beautiful sculpture from Miguel Díaz. The artisan crafts the small figurine from papier mache and covers it with tiny glass beads that are affixed to the sculpture with beeswax. The Huichol are an indigenous people of central northwest Mexico with a rich and varied artisanal heritage.
