A breathtaking palette of colors greets the viewer in this depiction of an open air market in an Andean village. María Uyauri works in arpillería – embroidered appliqués of fabric cutouts, embroidered by hand – to create a variety of fruits and vegetables and the women who sell them. A display rod can slip through an opening at the top of the wall hanging.

I love colors and flowers so I purchased this garland on a sale. It has exceeded my expectations. Almost entirely hand sown with flowers intricately done. No two are the same and each has a unique center. A wide variety of colors. I hang garlands vertically or drape along my piano top or mantel but for weeks I coiled this one in a circle in the center of my dining room table. No fresh flowers needed, but when I bought some I coiled the garland at the base. Very, very cheery.

The detailed and lovely work Maria did on this clutch made me fall in love with the dog she portrays, and wish I could bring it home. Her skill and imagination in doing the applique are very apparent, and I see from looking at her wall hangings that she is a very talented and extra special artist. I will be purchasing more of her special work. Thank you Maria for creating one of my very favorite things.

As an amateur weaver, I appreciated how this piece told the story of wool fibers, from pasture to yarn to product. Thank you!
