Eyes squinted shut in concentration, an elongated visage with furrowed brow exhibits its force of will. Nana Frimpong carves the mask by hand using manual tools and sese wood. A braid-like texture frames the piece, and soot enhances its antique finish. In Ghana, masks like these are most often worn in tribunals, assuring impartiality during the trial. Adwen pa means "positive thinking" in the Akan language.

“Perfect size for a small space”

This is just the right size to fit neatly in so many places. I reflect on the meaning each day as I leave the door of my bedroom where it reminds me to look honestly at the past and remember its lessons in order to build a better future.
