This elaborate African mask from Ghana is hand-carved of local sese wood to depict a face with a beard and braided hair, accented with a crescent shape at the top. Christopher Nyasafo crafts the mask in the traditional style of Baule masks. The Baule tribe represents a subgroup of the Akan people in the Ivory Coast. Line motifs in the center of the brow reflect scarification practices.

We love it. The use of the primary colors is wonderful, and stays within earth tones. A happy mask, which makes us smile and brightens the room!
