Guatemalan artisan couple Juan and Carolina (and family) carve these brightly-coloured jaguar masks traditionally used for the "misnamed" Dance of the Tiger in Mexico and Central America. Although this version is decorative, it is still hand carved from pine, hand painted and decorated with tufts of maguey fiber, like those created for ceremonial purposes. The finish is a traditional rustic wax.

“Inspiring artwork”

This statuette is wonderful and friendly! It is colorful, but subtly so. Its sweet and simple and sincere. I was drawn to the devotional artistry of the piece, and it warms my heart.
