The legendary Adinkra symbols of the Ashanti people invite reflection and inspire the colorful artistry of Frank Nortei Nortey. Painting with acrylics, he details 24 of this powerful symbols and includes some of his own creation. "The ones I created lack symbolic meaning, I focused on the design. However, of the traditional Adinkra there are three whose virtues should be considered in everyday life, such as Akoma ntoaso ('extension of the heart') symbolizing understanding, Nkyinkyim ('Twistings') symbolizing initiative, dynamism, and versatility, and Nsaa, a type of hand-woven cloth that stands for excellence and authenticity," explains Nortey.
