Precise geometric forms distinguish this handsome mask by Godfred France. Carved by hand from seasoned sese wood, it flaunts exquisite textures. "Such masks are used by Ghana's Mamprusi people, who use them during their harvest season. They wear them in appreciation to God for a bountiful harvest," the artisan explains. He applies sheets of embossed aluminum to the features and adds brass accents. France names this piece Gawsu, a Mamprusi word meaning "Hope."

I have been collecting some African art, including the bust of a beautiful African woman which took me many years to find and to find just that right piece. The hand-carved Continent of Africa includes five carved-out animals which I hope you can see. It was a huge find. But when I stumbled upon Novica and the African Mask. Well, it was like finding the Rosetta stone. Your masks have found their way into my heart and a wonderful place in my home that I proudly display and want to share with you. I have many beautiful collectibles from all over the world. I believe I collect these items because I feel they bring me closer to all the magnificent people GOD has placed on earth. I hope you enjoy the photo I sent. I do understand that only five of the seven pieces are your creations. Thank you and to the other artists for your fine work in preserving history and a fine culture. Thank you again, Mr. Godfred France. I also forgot to mention that my favorite mask is God is Supreme
