It’s the perfect time of year to don a light throw while sipping a lovely cup of tea or hot chocolate. In NOVICA’s online collection of pillows and throws, I found an exotic two-layered floral blanket featuring red and pink dahlias. Accentuated by a light brown background, the blossoms are printed with silkscreen techniques and finished with kantha running stitch sewn by hand in pink, red, turquoise, blue, green, and bright red hemstitch on the borders. I decided I had to have the pair of matching cushion covers, which feature solid brown backs and zipper openings. I’m so glad I did!
The vivid colors and the kantha made these items an exciting purchase for me. Why do I love kantha? Bright, beautiful colors, intricate hand stitching, and exotic origins! Who wouldn’t love it? The many uses of kantha make them wildly popular. They drape elegantly across a sofa, love seat, or bed, they look beautiful stacked on shelves or folded in baskets, and they make pretty tablecloths. They add vibrant color and a rich pattern to any room. Thinking outside the box, they could be used as picnic blankets, along with the cushion covers, to make alfresco affairs even lovelier.

Bright, Beautiful Colors, and Intricate Hand Stitching
Jai Prakash, is the talented artisan. He is from Rajasthan, India, known for its rich cultural heritage and tradition. Prakash’s team specializes in handmade home furnishings and textile products. Women do most of their pieces since the embroidery techniques that they use are mostly traditional styles that have been handed down from mothers to daughters. Their design team is always on the outlook for innovative designs, and they are always creating something new and fresh. Most importantly, their products are all inspired by traditional designs. They have been able to open a small hospital for the poor in their community, and now it is their dream to open a school. I am happy to support these artisans who truly care about their community.
While browsing NOVICA’s home decor, I found a gorgeous hand woven, embroidered rug (below). Called Floral Magic for good reason – the flower blossoms are hand embroidered in bright colors. The design is just beautiful, and I believe I have the perfect spot for it!
