Ancient Maya craftspeople were masters at the delicate art of relief sculptures in stucco. Ruben and Gilda Perez utilize the material to create a beautiful mask with jade inlay. Faithfully reproducing an archaeological piece from Palenque, they depict the sun god, an image buried in the tomb of Pacal, or "Shield Jaguar." The king is interred beneath the Temple of the Inscriptions, and this jade mask is a one of the many offerings found there. The Guatemalan artisans present the mask on a brass and pinewood display stand, and it can also be displayed on the wall.

This was a 12th anniversary gift for my husband. Jade or opal is the gemstone for that year of marriage. It is very nice although it is large, and my husband says it is a bit heavy. He wont wear it. I did not realize it was so big otherwise I would not have purchased. Once I received it, I had a feeling he would think it was too big. I decided to keep it and make it into an ornament for our Christmas tree or maybe use it a windchime.

This is a beautiful stone but the band is very small considering it was advertised as a men s bracelet. My husband is not a large person but we will have to either return or add links.
